Leachate treatment

Leachate treatment

The origin of the landfill leachate are as follows:

Precipitation: Rainfall and snowfall (main source)

Surface water: Surface runoff and irrigation

Groundwater: Groundwater infiltration when the leachate level is lower than the groundwater level

Water content in the trash: From trash itself or from the atmosphere

Trash degradation: Water generated from organic matter degradation

Challenges

Variable landfill leachate characteristics

Complex pollutants content

Rich organic matter, i.e. high COD, BOD

High ammonia (NH3-N) content

High concentration of heavy metal ions and salinity

Solution

DTRO membrane equipment combined with applicable solutions

Shenyang Daxin leachate emergency treatment project

Project feature

Large scale: 0.94 million m3 leachate, the largest leachate emergency treatment project in the world.

Big challenge: extremely high electrical conductivity, ammonia concentration and quite strict effluent discharge standard.

Intensive project schedule:

Yield 800 tons/d permeate within 1 month

Yield 2,000 tons/d permeate within 3 months

High efficiency: 18 sets of Jiarong container systems were arranged. The permeate quality fully met the local effluent discharge standard.

New Biz model: Jiarong invests in the operation of the project and charges a treatment fee per ton of wastewater treated

Raw water quality:

NH4-N: 2,500 mg/L

COD: 3,000 mg/L

EC: 4,000 μs/cm

Effluent quality:

NH3-N 5 mg/L

COD 60 mg/L (meets national standard GB18918-2002 Class-A)

Treatment process

Pretreatment + Two-stage DTRO + HPRO + MTRO + IEX

Timeline of project

March 30th, 2018: Contract signed

April 30th, 2018: The effluent reaches 800 tons per day

June 30th, 2018: The effluent reaches 2100 tons per day

October 31st, 2019: The landfill leachate generated in this site was fully treated and legally discharged
